The Director General National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba has called on government agencies and relevant stakeholders to invest more in training and retraining programmes to promote efficiency in the course of discharging their duties.
He made this call during the closing ceremony of a five day training in Geo-Information System (GIS) organized by the Strategic Space Application Department of the Space Agency for the staff of Nigeria Correctional Service NCS at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Shaba who commended the efforts of the organizers and participants, emphasized that the Agency is endowed with a wide range of intellectuals in different areas of specialization that can serve the training needs of relevant agencies.
Dr. Shaba while reaffirming the agency’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s developmental progress through specialized training in Geo-Information System charged the participants not to relent in their quest for knowledge and to apply the skills and expertise they have acquired through the training program.
He appreciated the Comptroller General and the facilitators of the programme for the swift action to organize a training after the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Space Agency and NCS.
Dr. Shaba also commended the NCS staff for their dedication to improving their skills and knowledge, stating that the Agency is proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown throughout the training programme
He added that the willingness of NCS to embrace new technologies and approaches demonstrates dedication to creating a safer, more efficient and rehabilitative correctional system for our country.
The NASRDA boss futher assured that the Agency is always committed to providing necessary support and will continue to make available relevant data towards the growth and development of the country.
In his remarks, the Controller General of Nigeria Correctional Service, Mr. Halilu Nababa represented by the the Assistant Controller General of Operations, Kabir Galandaci while expressing appreciation for what he described as a robust training, thanked the Director General for providing a conducive environment for learning said the collaboration with NASRDA will assist the service in effective inmate data management and efficiency in service delivery.
He added that the training will enable speedy reformation, rehabilitation and subsequent reintegration of the service with the potential to revolutionize various aspects of prison management with invaluable tools to drive positive change in the correctional system of Nigeria.
The Director of Strategic Space Application SSA, Dr. Matthew Adepoju in his remarks appreciated the Director General of NASRDA for coming up with the idea of capacity building programme that has projected NASRDA in positive light.
Dr. Adepoju charged the participants to go back and put to use what they have been taught to explore much opportunities to take Nigeria to enviable heights.
In her goodwill message, the Controller of Corrections who doubles as the Head of Resource Mobilization of NCS, Dr. Joy Edward lauded the Space Agency for the professionalism shown during the training programme.
Dr. Joy who express delight for being a participant said the kind of facilities and grounded knowledgeable staff domicile in the Agency is laudable.
Highlights of the event were presentations of gifts to the Director General and presentations of certificates of attendance to the participants.
